Exiting new initiative for Grantham !!
Quality Players are needed by Grantham Town to enter into the Junior Premier Football League
Grantham Town 2007/2008 under 15’s
The board of directors of Grantham Youth football is very pleased to announce that the Town’s youth set up has taken one of the biggest steps in its history. As of next season we will be entering two teams into the Junior Premier Football League. The league is for youth teams from Professional and Semi Professional Clubs and is a Midlands based league. The league boasts teams such as Birmingham City, Derby County, Kidderminster Harriers, Tamworth and Bristol Rovers so will provide a very severe test for us. The club has entered two teams in this league for next season’s under 15 and under 18 age groups, we will be the only club in Lincolnshire or Nottinghamshire competing at this level.
Director of Football Barry Baker commented. “We need to make this step up to prepare the players for the first team; the standard will be very high. In youth football there is local football, then county football, then Academy football, this league sits between the County and Academy Leagues. The under 14’s proved they can compete at this level when the recently played against Middlesbrough losing 4-3. I am looking forward to the challenge and so are the players. We would look to run more teams in this league once they are of a good enough standard “
The under 18’s will be a new team, the club already has some good individuals at this age group and have been contacted by several quality players leaving Academy’s. Chairman Steve Donaghy added “This is a significant step forward for our youth set up and I think gives everybody an indication of the progress the new board of directors has made in such a short period of time. We are determined to provide a stream of good local youth players for first team consideration I am sure that this will be the salvation of the football club in the future. I said on our website that now is the time for any local footballer to join the new set up, we hope to provide more teams within the coming seasons at this sort of level. Barry will get all the support he needs from the board to make this a success’
Ø All matches will be on a Saturday
Ø Most of our home games will be in the stadium, all teams are required to play at least one game per season in their main stadium
Ø The team will probably be traveling by coach to games
Ø All player will wear trousers, shirt and tie to and from matches ( and probably a club jacket )
Ø We will have to supply food after the match for the opponents
Ø The league will be a lot harder and we may lose more than we win to start with
Ø 16 Players per match, roll on roll off subs
Ø We can sign on an unlimited amount of players
Traveling is huge factor in this league, this season there are 15 teams, next season at our age group they plan to make this two leagues of 12, finishing in a champions tournament at the end. With the new teams, they will run an east section and west section, so no trips to Bristol for a 10:30 kick off, unless we get them in the cup. On this, all cups are over 2 legs! With regards to travel we are looking at getting a coach/mini bus, which will pick up from the stadium and another point, i.e. Bingham Roundabout for example.
If you believe you have the right qualities to compete at this level and are interested in being part of the either of these teams then contact Director of Football Barry Baker on 07767717190 or email us at manager@granthamtown.co.uk more information via the website www.granthamtown.co.uk
