Grantham Town 0 v 2 Solihull
Grantham U18's started their league campaign at home not knowing what to expect from their opponents in a new league. The visitors started brightly and had the better of the early exchanges without really troubling Nicholson in the Town goal. As the half wore on Grantham got a foothold in the game and started to enjoy more possession without carving out a clear cut chance, the half ended goal-less without any further goalmouth action.
Grantham started the second period on a more positive note and appeared to be in control until a speculative long ball from Solihull was not properly cleared and the deadlock was broken. Grantham pushed on looking for an equaliser but the heat of the morning started to take its toll on both teams as numerous substitutions were made and the pace went out of the game a little. With the game drawing to a close Grantham failed to react to a knock down from a set piece and the visitors extended their lead, running out eventual 2-0 winners. A good game played in the right spirit with some solid Town performances but with room for improvement. Grantham MoM: Ryan Broxholme
