Grantham Town U16's 3 v 1 Mansfield Town Athletic
Only 6 weeks ago Grantham Town ran some trials for the Under 18's, 3 of the players that impressed were to young for the Under 18's, so the club set about building a new Under 16's team. They played their first game last weekend against the highly respected Mansfield Town Athletic.
It was Grantham that looked the sharpest are they moved the ball around with purpose. It wasn't long before they threatened the Mansfield goal. Ricky North crashed his 30 yard shot against the cross bar. Moments later Henry Picker received the ball on the left, turned his marker then curled his shot in the far corner of the net. The young gingerbreads were dominate at this point and Henry Picker then played a neat one two with Olly Clarke, Picker slotted the ball home for a 2-0 half time lead. The second half saw town make many changes, but they still created chance and was rewarded when Callum Bell slotted and inch perfect pass through for Jack Nichols to fire home from the edge of the box. Mansfield did get a goal back and put pressure on Town in the final stages of the match, But Jack Drury in goal and his defence held firm
