Hinckley took the lead after just 26 seconds when Grantham messed up their kick off. Hinckley then pushed hard as Grantham were still shell shocked. But the young gingerbreads rallied and started to make moves forward. Billy Hurst headed back for Sam Hill to volley home to level the scores, 5 minutes later Grantham had a great chance to go in the lead when a Hinckley player handled on the goal line, he was sent off and Chris Marsh stepped up to the take the penalty, only to see it hit the post. Grantham were then in the lead when Harry Bartlett’s cross was headed home by Billy Hurst. Hinckley then levelled as the Grantham defence failed to clear the ball. But Grantham then came back and Darryl Beech headed home to give Town a 3-2 half time lead.
The second half belonged to Hinckley as they poured forward, Grantham had their chances and hit the cross bar through Bartlett but Hinckley broke and scored 3 2nd half goal. A Thrilling match and one that was an excellent advert for the Junior Premier League, two quality teams giving it their all and playing attractive football.
