The hosts started brightly hitting the post early on. Grantham's new defensive partnership took time to adjust and Birchwood opened the scoring after a home striker was left free. They soon sorted it out though and Josh Kelham had a fine game breaking up attacks and passing forward. Will Barron was a threat down the right hand side and scored a deserved goal, at the back post, following an Alex Dempster cross.
Soon after half-time the hosts took the lead again when a long range shot managed to evade everyone. The Gingerbreads, though, started to dominate and had a succession of corners. Euan Dolby equalised with a long range effort that found the bottom corner and Joseph Hoskins put them into the lead with a well taken goal before Euan Dolby sealed it with a fierce drive. Man of the match for Grantham was Alex Dempster who led the line, held the ball up well and worried the defence with his tricky runs.
