Grantham Town U9s 3 Vs 1 Ruston Sports
Grantham became champions of the Mid Lincs 'A' division after beating last year's winners Rustons in the final game of the season.
Needing a point for the title, with the visitors able to catch them with a win, the Gingerbreads got the early goal they wanted. A quick break from their own half and a great pass from Alex Dempster found Euan Dolby racing through and he coolly flicked it past the onrushing 'keeper for the opening goal.
Nerves then settled and Grantham produced some great football, with Will Barron a constant threat down the right. As in recent weeks Daniel Moulds and Josh Kelham kept a tight defence and with everyone else working hard it left 'Keeper Ryan Bradley with little to do, dealing well however with a shot that had rattled the crossbar.
The second half saw Grantham score early again, a good passing move put in Euan Dolby who unleashed a shot into the bottom corner. Alex Dempster then made the game, and the title, safe with the third goal.
Rustons never gave up and a fine finish brought them a consolation goal.
What a fantastic achievement by the team winning a league that very few teams from Grantham have won at any age group.
