Grantham 3 v 2 Retford

Grantham won this crucial top of the table clash more comfortably than the scoreline suggests, leapfrogging their opponents into top spot. Both sides, especially the visitors, tried to push forward in the early stages without threatening the goal too much. In the 18th minute the home side broke the deadlock. A Joseph Lote throw was flicked on by Euan Dolby into the path of Ben Browne who unleashed an unstoppable volley into the top corner. 'Keeper Joseph Hoskins did very well to tip a shot over the bar, but it was Grantham who ended the half in control. Ten minutes into the second period the visitors got their second shot on target and equalised following a break down the left during which players had stopped, thinking the ball had gone out of play. It didn't, however, take the Gingerbreads long to restore the lead when Josh Kelham pushed a clever ball through for Ben White to make it two goals in his only two games. Euan Dolby then squeezed home from an Alex Dempster pass before Retford broke quickly to reduce the deficit, though rather than panic it was the Home side who looked most likely to score in the last few minutes. Grantham's man of the Match was Ben Browne for some great runs, tireless work and a great goal
