This was again a good game, which we were unfortunate to lose, and again there were some excellent performances to note. Grantham had at least six or seven clear chances other than the goal where we should have scored They hit the bar and the post and there were some good saves from Wyberton’s Goalkeeper and some near misses.
The home team had been on the receiving end of some heavy defeats recently and were in no mood to “roll over”. Elbows were let loose and there was a fair bit of barging and holding off the ball
After being awarded the Captains’ armband just before the game there was some sterling work in attack and defense from Eleanor Pike. She, along with Abbie Weatherstone who worked hard on the right, assisted Akvile Gerbenyte in scoring in the first half.
Poppy Hallam however, had no chance with the equalizer which was a belter from an angle just on the edge of the box. The winning goal, also in the second half came through a melee of players in the area.
Hannah Dunderdale got in on the act when she came on for Lottie Bates in the first half and made some excellent saving tackles and used her speed to close down effortlessly. She also seems to have cornered the market in long throws . Hannah also managed a few headers of her own, and her tenacity and verve has earned her the Managers‘ “Man-of-the-Match” award for this game.
