to the youth by recently selecting 3 youth players to play in a friendly for the first team including our Under 15's goalkeeper.
Why would anyone who is seriously interested in football want to go anywhere else ?

Grantham 1 v 5 Market Deeping

Not a matchday to remember! - This must have been the worst weather that you could possibly play a game in!

The standard of football was pretty good though, and we held on to 0-0 for most of the first half with the wind against us! Deepings’ first goal came from a high looping shot from distance which beat ‘keeper Poppy Hallam, who was at full stretch as the ball crept in under the bar. She did make an outstanding save however, going down to smother a blistering shot at her feet.  It wasn’t too long though, before Deeping scored their second, also in the first half, after a sloppy misplaced pass across the box was pounced on by the alert opposing forwards.

The conditions eventually proved just too much for the Goalkeeper and she had to come off with just two minutes to go in the first half with serious frostbite and the chance of losing a finger or two!!

Madelaine Woollford stepped up to the plate and proved a worthy replacement. Half time couldn’t come soon enough for all concerned and some of the players wanted to cancel the match. Both teams evacuated the field of play for the warm caress of the nearby Leisure centre toilets and the hand dryers, for some fifteen minutes. None of the Grantham girls wanted to go back on and took some coercing back out again.

Every girl gave their all in the second half and there was much grit and determination shown, particularly from Abbie Weatherstone, Jessie Leigh Slater and Eleanor Pike in midfield.

It was unfortunate that Madelaine was now in goal as she was doing an excellent job in a defence that had earlier been very tight. Unfortunately she conceded a further three goals during the second half, and it seemed that Deeping always had that extra player to follow in. This is what happens sometimes when you push on, looking for goals.

Grantham had deserved a goal for all their effort, and one duly came from the opposing manager nominated “Man-of the-match” Akvile Gerbenyte with a fantastic solo effort which showed all of her strength and skill on the ball.
