With a pitch having long grass and only one sub we went into this game with some trepidation, having lost heavily to them twice at home.
Our worst fears were realised as we lost 4-0 in both halves.
We tried all manner of formations in an attempt to shake off their hold on the game to no avail.
Deepings’ main threat is a young lady called Chloe Stewart, who is very good on the ball she could easily play for a senior team, and I could see her being whisked away by a bigger team at some stage soon.
It would seem they have some other good players too, with one more forward of note, two decent defenders and a good keeper.
There was one move by the other team which saw aforementioned Chloe take on four of our players in turn, with last defender Annie Walton actually throwing herself in front of her. She got around them all and cheekily side footed past Poppy Hallam for a unique solo goal.
We were restricted to shooting from distance, where in the first half both Akvile Gerbenyte and Madelaine Woollford were both unlucky not to score!
The one moment in the match where we might have stood a chance of putting something together was thwarted by the referee. With a Deeping player down in the area (his daughter) he waited until we were on the break with the ball in their half to blow his whistle.
Anyway it’s no use crying over spilt milk and we’ll need to be strong when we play them next.
Player-of-the-match was Abbie Weatherstone, who ran tirelessly on the right.
