Most football-mad youngsters dream of the chance to join a professional football club. Just how do they get that chance to take the first steps? Being noticed by a professional club is very hard, they first look at the next level below them first, any player serious about making it as a professional, need at least to be playing in a county league.
Unfortunately a great number of very good players never make it as a professional player, but a good standard of football is achieved at the semi professional level, like Grantham Town Football Club.
Director of Football Barry Baker explains: "If a player has the potential to make it as a professional player, then in my opinion they would be better suited to a club like Grantham Youth Football Club, Why ? because we play in the Midland Junior Premier and the County league and compete at the top of the A divisions, should they not get noticed or make it in to a professional clubs academy then there is still the possibility for the player to have a career in football at Grantham at semi professional level. "
If we feel that youngsters have the necessary skills we would follow up by offering them a trial at the club. This can be of anything up to a maximum of six weeks in length and that gives us the opportunity to make a more detailed and considered assessment."
