Youth Set up working
Youth Players’ Progress.
A very successful season for Grantham Town Youth; with both the Under 16’s and Under 10’s winning the A division in the Mid Lincs league, along with the Under 16’s getting to the County Cup final. Also the Under 15’s and Under 18’s competed in the Midlands Junior Premier League for the first time. Whilst there was no honor won this season, both teams did very well against some top Acadmey teams and School of Excellence teams from the Conference and Football League. Futhermore, several youth players have started to make an impression with the First Team - Several Under 18’s players have been training with the First Team this season but more impressively several of the younger players have also started to be involved. Goalkeeper Jordan Baker and Midfielder Ricky North have not only been training with the First Team but both have also played in a recent friendly with Lincoln Moorelands. 14 year old Kings School pupil Jordan Baker played the last 45 minutes for Grantham and made three outstanding saves. Ricky North played the last 20 minutes and had a chance to score but his shot went slightly wide. More recently Ryan Broxholme’s recent performances for the Under 16’s have got him training with the First team. Both Broxholme and North have also represented Grantham at Under 18’s level this season. In addition, Allington Primary School Pupil, Euan Dolby, the Under 10’s top scorer has been offered a 12 month contract with Nottingham Forest. The centre midfielder has had a number of offers in the last year but has stuck with Grantham. After a recent successful trial, Forest were pleased to offer him a place next season. Youth Chairman Steve Donaghay added, “This shows the youth set up is working as we are now seeing a steady stream of youth players joining up with the First Team. Grantham will be running an open trials session on Tuesday 20th May at 6:30pm at the Central School. More info on the website www.granthamtown.com or call 07500814622
