GRANTHAM RANGERS

History

Grantham Rangers FC was originally formed in July 1998. This was a result of a meeting between Mr Michael Bailey and Mr Geoff Green. During their conversation it was apparent that there was not a team in the area that would afford local players the chance to step out of the local league and try to make the step up the level of the town's premier team, Grantham Town FC. The first season saw the newly formed Grantham Rangers FC finish a creditable 5th in the Grantham premier division. Such was the ambition of the team who were joined by Mr David Newboult that an application was made to join the United Counties League was made but were turned down( reason being no teams were allowed to ground share in the UCL ). Not to be knocked back the Central Midlands League were approached and the club was made to feel very welcome and once permission to join the league was obtained from the football association, Rangers step up in to the pyramid was complete. The team finished a well deserved 11th place in their first season. The following season didn't get off to a good start as Geoff Green had to step down due to work commitments. Mick Bailey took over the reign's and after a long struggle to keep players it was decided to resign from the league. It was not until problems at Harrowby Utd last season 08/09 became unworkable that Dave Newboult and Geoff Green along with new manager Martin Proctor that a new sponsor was found in Graeme Still of KESTREL Temperature Controlled Services Ltd that the name of Grantham Rangers FC was to resurrected and fittingly after consultation with the Central Midlands League that the team (Harrowby Utd) could change its name and continue to competing at the level that both Dave and Geoff had always aspired to and bring the opportunity of pyramid football to the local players of Grantham
